Historical Interpretation Center

It will take you about two hours to know the story of human evolution and the environment of southern Patagonia, with data on ice ages, rock art and tehuelche culture. There is an outdoor themed room with life-size images and a living room with photo albums and more than a hundred volumes of texts referring to Patagonia.

El Calafate Regional Museum

An hour and a half to learn the history of the town, with pictures of its first inhabitants. This old building which used to operate as the Development Commission has also archaeological materials (tools, bolas, arrowheads), palaeontological stuff (fossil samples from different species), things about geology, flora and fauna of the area.
On the outside, you will find sample tools from the early twentieth century, used for shearing. On the front of the building there are two large wagons, which were used to transport wool, the "white gold" at the time.
Access for disabled and all information was translated into Braille.

Administration Center Glacier National Park

Built in 1945 and declared a National Historic Monument, it is at the commercial center of El Calafate. It is also a pioneer in the development of the area and it offers samples of machinery that was used when the park was inauguarted. On the green areas surrounding it, you are taught how to differentiate native from introduced flora in the area.

Municipal Ecological Reserve Nimez Lagoon

1km away from the shopping center, an educational circuit of about 2500m where you will find clear waters, varied flora and over 80 species of birds: flamingos, geese, long-necked swans and ducks, among others. There are several panoramic points for observing and photographing. At the end of the tour, after walking 500m, you will reach the shores of Argentine Lake and Round Bay.

Punta Walichu

8 km from the Mall on the shores of the Argentine Lake. This is a site of archaeological interest, where the caves have original paintings of the first people who populated the area and copies from other parts of the Santa Cruz province. It has a small museum with services of confectionery and a regional shop. The walk takes about 3 hours and it can be accessed in private cars, remises or through travel agencies.
